In 1968, the Soviet Union's Academy of Sciences commissioned the development of the FM-2 phantom mannequin to study the effects of cosmic radiation on the human body. The mannequin, weighing 70kg at a height of 170cm, was manufactured with wheat and sawdust to simulate the reaction to radiation exposure on human tissue. Built in the likeness of Yuri Gagarin, the mannequin flew around the Moon during the Zond-7 mission in 1969, again around the Moon on Zond-8 in 1970, and around Earth on the Kosmos-368 satellite that same year. Today it resides at the Polytechnic Museum in Moscow.
